OK, not a plug, but just because I am still amazed at how amazing these batteries are..
I don't get paid to shout this.
I have tried the following batteries and am sorely disappointed:
Shorai
Ballistic
Yuasa AGM
Lead Acid Wet batteries (remember AGM and Gel are in Lead Acid Category too)
Some yellow battery AGM super brand thing for only $200
..and misc other expensive batteries that suck
Here is the gist, I keep and store more motorcycles than any one person should. I am constantly looking for a battery that will be able to sit 6 months at a time with minimal maintenance (almost none) and the ability to be small and still crank over my high compression engines.
- p.s. Remember to get a good quality trickle charger anyway ($30-$50)
Here are the details of each
Lith Ion or Iron batteries are a Joke - don't waste your money - The only benefit to these batteries are weight. These are no good regardless of your personal experience - The instant coffee of batteries
AGM - Great for use on an everyday bike, Higher cranking output for size....one big problem They Sulfate. If you don't know what that means - it does the same thing as a Standard Lead Acid battery and fails when sitting - Save your money (p.s. These are also the heaviest batteries)
No Namers - These are batteries you bought on Amazon or Ebay that were a great deal, but they will only last a year at best, rarely produce advertised CCA and AH and generally are made of bubble gum and pop-sickle sticks. These are OK for the kick start customs you ride...not for an elec start big motor hot rod
My Personal Best... GEL batteries by Bike Master
Why? I've tried them all in the last 15 years and most suck.
The Battery in my 1979 Honda CB750 is 7 years old!!! I pushed the button last night and she fired off like it was ridden yesterday (sitting almost a year!) And get this! The battery is a 4AH!
I have consistently run batteries waaaaayyyy too small for the engine and have great results
Bene #2 - They don't Sulfate! This is really big. If you have not taken this int account then do some homework on it. This is the reason batteries fail when sitting
Finally - Price is Right! I just bought another (YTZ7S) on Amazon for $50 free shipping. The Same AGM battery is $100 and a Ballistic is $159! WTF!
My Morning Rant - I hope this helps and it will likely confuse some. Maybe my experiences will help you a bit more than the $15 an hour salesman at Batteries Minus trained to vomit the cue-cards in your face on why LIPO or LiFi or whatever is the best. Save that crap for your cordless drill and get a Gel battery
